Lockdown!

It’s been a while since I blogged; mainly because life has been bobbing along pretty nicely with few bumps in the road. Which is ace, I’m certainly not complaining – but it does mean that blogging material has been in short supply.

And then March 2020 happened; Coronavirus infected the UK. Before any of us could get our head around what was happening normal life morphed into a disaster movie. Pubs, clubs, restaurants, gyms, hairdressers were all ordered to close. Lives shrank to the size of our own homes almost overnight. Working from home, social distancing and isolation became the norm. It all happened in a blink.

So we are now 1 week in to lockdown with 2 more weeks to go before review. But many of us are expecting these stringent rules to continue for way longer than that.

So here’s what I’ve learnt in week one:

  • Our NHS is awesome. Respect.
  • I’m grateful to have a job where it is possible to work from home. I can mostly carry on “normally” for the forseable.
  • I’m glad that my kids are old enough to be self sufficient. I would be a rubbish teacher!
  • Sharing a small home office with my husband is pants. But looking on the bright side, I’ve not stabbed him yet.
  • Technology is awesome. If this had happened a few years ago there would be no Facebook, WhatsApp, Zoom conferencing, video calling. Messages from family and friends have become a lifeline.
  • It is possible to love lockdown. Josh is living his best life – sleeping in late every day, a few hours of school work, a few hours of lazing around on his xbox chatting to his mates and some exercise in our makeshift gym in the garage. And repeat!
  • Working from home is not great. The best part of working is the people I work with. Its now just me and Ad 😬
  • My desk is not big enough for both of us…
  • I actually quite like the slower pace of life. But I miss people and the outside world. A lot. Family and friends are everything πŸ’•
  • All those jobs around the house that were waiting for me to have time to do them…Well it turns out lack of time was not the problem.
  • At a push, I can cut hair. Not confidently. No brilliantly. But I did it and there were no tears!
Straight “ish” 🀣

Good luck for week 2!

  1. … on cutting hair, it helps if the coiffeuse is thoroughly relaxed. The second piece of advice is if it goes awry don’t stop cutting – keep going.

    Keep safe!
    Love to all!!
